Travelling This Month?
Heads-up info for May travellers across our cities.
National strike 29 May — limited service
A national transport strike is planned for Friday 29 May. ATAC buses, trams and metro will operate within guaranteed service bands only (06:00–09:00 and 17:00–20:00). Plan around these windows or use the Leonardo Express to Fiumicino — it is not affected. Check the ATAC website for updates.
Metro A and multiple tram lines disrupted
Metro Line A station Flora is closed until further notice (since February). Tram lines 7, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 22, 23 and 26 have partial suspensions through July due to maintenance works. Use the PID Lítačka app for real-time alternative routing. The 90-min ticket covers all replacement buses.
Tap+Ride launches: pay by card at U-Bahn gates
From 28 May, Vienna is piloting contactless bank card payment at nine U-Bahn stations including Stephansplatz and Westbahnhof. Tap your Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay or Google Pay for a single journey — no app needed. WienMobil remains the best option for day passes.
Stable service — new Piccadilly Line trains arriving
May strikes have ended. TfL is now running reliably across all lines. The first new Piccadilly Line trains — replacing 40-year-old rolling stock — are arriving from 2026, with more comfort and better air conditioning on the key Heathrow route.
Discounts extended & beach season in full swing
The 40% government discount on T-Casual and T-Usual tickets continues through 2026. No strikes or service disruptions expected. The beaches are open and metro Line L4 to Barceloneta runs every 4 minutes at peak times — ideal for coastal day trips.
Extra metro capacity & contactless coming in June
Madrid Metro is running at increased capacity through May. The 40% discount on the 10-trip Metrobús (€7,30) is confirmed through December 2026. Contactless bank card payment at metro gates is scheduled to launch in June — a significant upgrade for visitors.
